One for @bengoldacre: Bad science, worse journalism
An influential study on child sex trafficking was based on looking at photos in personal ads and guessing which women looked underage. http://www.citypages.com/2011-03-23/news/women-s-funding-network-sex-traffick...
The best bit is when one of the researchers says that the numbers are "not a precise count" but are still "specific numbers... hard numbers" - "you can look at them both ways."
Also, a women's group support the exposing of this junk "science" and shoddy reporting, but rightly add: "it’s frustrating that it is necessary for white male researchers to do this criticism before it is deemed valid.”

Elizabeth saw this poster and thought it was me. And said so repeatedly. In a busy restaurant.

One for the guitarists: ace documentary about the wah-wah pedal
Although you can also make some very interesting sounds with a bass through a wah-wah, as a lot of people at church are going to find out on Sunday.

What better way to celebrate my birthday...?
Than the suggestion by cousin Alison that this picture of Sir Walter Scott provides a good idea of what I will look like at the same age. Which is now only 18 years away. Hmmm. I can only hope that by that age I can afford a portraitist who is that generous to his or her clients.
