What they possibly failed to consider is that cats won't eat anything you want them to. If they had locked the sugary treats away in a drawer, things might have been different. Further tests might show that, while cats lack receptors that make eating sugar pleasant, they do have a large region of the brain that receives pleasure proteins when the cat is awkward, uncooperative or antisocial.
